In late January, 2022, The NCCTRC RRT Senior Advisory Team provided a rapid assessment of the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak in Galiwin’ku, Northern Territory, at the request of the Northern Territory Government.
Working alongside key stakeholders and community members including community leaders, Traditional Owners, Land Council representatives, the local College Principal and the Uniting Church Reverend, the team provided 11 key recommendations which addressed the management of and long-term strategy in response to community transmission.
The team reviewed case numbers, testing protocols, vulnerable persons, vaccinations including booster rates, clinical pathways and evacuation to Darwin and infection prevention control measures, and alternate locations for Northern Territory Health operational team members.
