SUMMARY:AUSMAT Surgical Team Course
DESCRIPTION:This four-day course provides training for disaster surgery and anaesthetics in the field. Developed to expose participants to a range of essential techniques and survival skills to manage successfully when deployed as part of an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT). \nThis course is a combination of classroom-style lectures and field simulation that includes an overnight field deployment. \nCourse content includes: \n\nHumanitarian systems/international frameworks\nEthical conduct of appropriate disaster surgery\nHumanitarian systems/international frameworks\nHealth standards/health clusters/sphere principles\nDisaster surgery/anaesthesia techniques\nLimb salvage orthopaedics\nDisaster general and neurosurgery techniques\nAnaesthetics in the austere environment\nThe practical establishment of a field hospital Safety and security awareness\nHostile negotiation\nTrip planning\nCommand and control principles\nEquipment management/familiarisation\n\nThis course is for senior surgeons\, anaesthetists and theatre nurses nominated by each state/territory. \nCourse location: Darwin \nUpcoming course dates: TBA \nParticipant numbers: min 20 | max 30 \nNotes: registrations are restricted. Participants are selected by their state/territory disaster unit.
